This page focuses on various websites, authors, blogs, and organizations that use various environmental communication practices in order to successfully communicate sustainable thinking and promote ideas that lead to increasing environmental awareness among their readers and followers.
World Wildlife Fund
Founded by an evolutionary biologist Julian Huxley (brother of a famous writer, Aldous Huxley), WWF is one of the world’s most famous international non-governmental organizations, focusing on conservation, research and restoration of the environment. WWF describes their mission as follows:
“For the last 50 years our mission has been to stop the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. We need to stop damaging our only life support system. A system on which we all depend. We need to share our world with all the other species that live on it. Respectfully. Harmoniously. And we must stop being the cause of their disappearance. …We must learn to live with what natural resources are available to us.”

International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN
IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network – with more than 1,200 members, some 10,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries. Helping the world find pragmatic solutions to our most pressing environment and development challenges, IUCN supports scientific research, manages field projects all over the world and brings governments, non-government organizations, United Nations agencies, companies and local communities together to develop and implement policy, laws and best practice.
Their mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable.

Extreme Ice Survey
To use their own words: “Founded in 2007 by James Balog, the Extreme Ice Survey (EIS) is an innovative, long-term photography program that integrates art and science to give a “visual voice” to the planet’s changing ecosystems. We believe that the creative integration of art and science can shape public perception and inspire action more effectively than either art or science can do alone.”
Environmental Democracy Index
My solid opinion is that in order to successfully engage environmental sustainability laws, the public involvement has be ensured.
Environmental Democracy Index is a powerful online tool that shows public involvement, environmental laws enactment and transparency, and government feedback, basing on in-depth information in 70 countries (the list is growing). Everyone is able to see the in-depth data on a particular country, and compare it to another countries.
In EDI’s own words, “the degree to which countries have enacted legally binding rules that provide for environmental information collection and disclosure, public participation across a range of environmental decisions, and fair, affordable, and independent avenues for seeking justice and challenging decisions that impact the environment. In addition to the legal index, EDI contains a separate and supplemental set of indicators that provide key insights on whether environmental democracy is being manifested in practice.”
